my only friend…

is the city I live in, the City of Angels.

The city of Los Angeles is filled with the hustle and bustle of everyday life; people are always rushing here and there, oblivious to the various gems scattered throughout Los Angeles.

For those very people who don’t have the time to do so themselves, I have found a creative list of things to do in Los Angeles. And since I’m too lazy to paraphrase, it is going to be plagiarized here:

ROCK THE BELLS 2008 REVIEW by caseyly16

So the Rock the Bells tour graced the Bay Area yesterday.

For those who don’t know…the Rock the Bells tour is the biggest and baddest hip hop festival in the world. Since it’s debut in 2004, a plethora of underground and golden age hip hop artists have gathered to bring real hip hop to the masses.

First off, I’d like to say the entire Rock the Bells tour is built on hype. Don’t get me wrong, I love the music and the performances, but the main draw of the show for many people is the fact that people who know and love hip hop make such a huge deal out of it. I’m sure a good 50-60% of the audience did not know much about the music before attending.

Therefore, the performances can be sub-par and the audiences would still act as if they were blown away. Luckily for us, however, the majority of the festival is very well done.

On to the real review:

In case you haven’t heard, Ronald Jenkees is amazing. He really isn’t just another one of those youtube phenoms who sound pretty good compared to normal people, but really aren’t that great (see: Boyce Avenue).

Basically what he does is he uses a software called FL Studio (previously known as Fruity Loops) to make beats than just jams on keyboard over them.

He just dropped a ridiculously hot jam… Remember listen through this, it might sound weird/different at first, but then it just progresses into the extraordinary.

Also realize, this is almost entirely improvised.

If you end up going through all his videos like I did the first time I heard him, it becomes obvious the the huge amount of pleasure he gets out of playing music and this love of music ends up literally shining through to those who hear.
